Introduction

These are the inner workings and thoughts of a young man's life. Problems, goals, observations, opinions, triumphs...these will all be portrayed as they are seen through my eyes. As these entries grow in numbers, I hope you all enjoy and take something away from them. Whether you take away something positive or something negative, I hope these words will affect your life in someway.

Chivalry...Dead or Alive?

When a high school boy goes on his first date his mother will undoubtedly tell him to open his date's door and be a gentleman.  Question: would the boy have done these acts of chivalry without his mother's guidance?

For some boys and men you will find a deep sense of chivalry instilled within their actions.  For others you will find a lack of courtesy and a disregard for manners and respect.  When I asked earlier if a boy would still act chivalrous without his mother's guidance I merely wanted to spark a conversation.  In all reality today's society relies on women to educate men in the correct way to treat a woman.  The new perspective that the majority of society has accepted is treating a woman as an item of possession and pleasure.

The pornography industry is a perfect example of this new perspective.  Thousands of women are using their body to make a living.  They have been convinced that it is alright to use their body sexually to gain the attention and attraction of men.  They have been told that it is okay to be treated in disrespectful way and that it should be so.  Should a respectful woman be expected to show off her body to be accepted?  Should a respectful woman believe that she doesn't have to be treated with dignity and respect?  Many will say that a woman makes her own decision to act in this manner.  Although this is true, would she have decided to act this way if society had raised her to respect her own body and virtues?

The world today has taught men that it is okay to treat a woman as an object of possession and pleasure.  After all, the only three things that a man needs to live are 1) sleep, 2) food, and 3) sex.  With this standard I can confidently say that acts of chivalry are sparse and rapidly coming to an end.  Why would a man go out of his way to treat someone respectfully if he doesn't have to?

There are several men, however, that go against this mold.  There are plenty that have decided to treat women in the way that they deserve.  They open doors, mind their language, and have an overall respectful attitude towards their counterparts.  It is in these select few that chivalry is alive.  Although it is a lost war they will continue to fight for what they believe is right...the correct way to treat a woman.

Chivalry is alive...but quickly dieing.
