Introduction

These are the inner workings and thoughts of a young man's life. Problems, goals, observations, opinions, triumphs...these will all be portrayed as they are seen through my eyes. As these entries grow in numbers, I hope you all enjoy and take something away from them. Whether you take away something positive or something negative, I hope these words will affect your life in someway.

Finding the Positive in All Things

Every day you run into someone who feels that something "bad" or "wrong" is going to happen from an event that is out of their control or an event that hasn't even occurred yet.  Every day you will find one person that will find that sliver of doubt that will crash your dreams and emotions and instill that doubt deep into your thoughts.

These people are known as pessimists.  I have never understood why or how this disposition and outlook develops in someone.  Why would you want to ruin someone's hope?  Why would you want to bring out a negative aspect when someone is obviously celebrating?  The truth is that we almost always know about the doubts and possible negatives in a situation but what good comes about from bringing it to the surface and dwelling on it?

The concept that I have realized in the past few years is that whether something will be positive or negative is completely unknown.  In almost every way we decide as we go along if the events and conversations in our lives are positive and uplifting or negative and degrading.  We never have to dwell on something that might go wrong.  If you never attempt to find that positive aspect in your life then you never will.

Negativity will consume your thoughts.  When you are negative it is very easy to slip into a state of depression and a mindset void of happiness.  Why would you want that?  What good does that do for your day?

Finding positive aspects isn't that hard.  If you break up with your girlfriend right before you were planning on getting married you will obviously lean towards the negative feelings evoked.  You can look at it, however, as a very positive thing.  What if you would have been married to each other?  Would it have been better to get married and then a year later come across the same situation?  The positive in this situation is that you prevented a more traumatizing event and years of grief and unhappiness.  Sure the immediate emotional state will be unpleasant, but the prevention of an even more painful state of being is more important and beneficial.  Plus, there is always someone else.

Finding the positive in all things will make your day brighter.  Things that go wrong won't seem that bad or terrible.  In all reality, everything in life is meant to be a learning experience.  As long as you learn from the event something positive will eventually come about.  Don't dwell on the negative.  As long as it doesn't kill you it will make you stronger, right?
